The past few weeks have been emotionally and mentally draining. While life often lacks answers, during these difficult days it becomes hard to breathe. I feel an urge to run away, but with nowhere to go, I end up driving 20km to the temple. There, I sit quietly for a while, gathering strength before returning to where I started.
While sitting in the temple, a question arose in my mind: "Who am I?" I knew a small part of the answer—that I am not the body, nor even the mind.
This realization lifted me out of the deep emotional turmoil I had mistakenly identified with. I am pure consciousness. This world is maya—a cosmic play where I am merely playing a character/role play. Yet I am not that character, for when the play ends, everyone returns to their true identity. Similarly, we have all entered this realm to play our parts until we return to the source. To make this return, we must do our sadhana. This is the only path, the sole truth of the universe: Atman.
So, whenever you find yourself amidst an insurmountable challenge, just ask "Who am I?"
